ABOVE: First the chainsaws. Most of the trees seen here are now gone, especially centre photo, almost 100% removed. Those on the far right are fence-line remnants - vital nesting trees, very old with hollows - under imminent threat.
ABOVE: Some of the carnage partway through what amounted to clear fell development. Possibly close to 90-95% denudation. Innovative planning [as opposed to old hat colonial clear fell] with due consideration to climate change and loss of species, could have seen at least 50% preserved in a viable and beautiful woodland reserve for the benefit of all - climate offset, species protection, valuable habitat corridor, beautiful public reserve for human well being. Instead the best of the trees were removed, some well over 100yrs, perhaps as much as 200yrs, with a few remnants left on lot areas for later removal for housing. No logic whatsoever. And this is the common practice of developments here in Bundanoon, and the Southern Highlands, despite the need to protect this endangered woodland, that just missed out on CRITICAL listing in 2015. There would have been many fauna casualties.
