Development: the current situation:
Large country lots which still hold good stands of native remnants are being chopped up into many smaller lots [both residential and rural] – with hard surface of roads, paths, housing, patios, driveways, etc. and basically clear fell of native woodlands, no matter how important the habitat value or endangerment of wildlife with only ‘token’ retention.
Look good on the surface plans are a pretence re habitat retention and protection as the current environmentally destructive development in Bundanoon, which is quantity of lots over and above the natural heritage of the area. The [critically] endangered status of this woodland ecology is no protection, as this is being ignored. This bad planning is not confined to Bundanoon, as many areas are now being heavily denuded without thought to the consequences, just the profit margins of developers and government coffers.
There is little time for the public to view and assess these plans. Most, having little understanding or knowledge of ecology, take a cursive glance, and fail to realise how deceptive the level of retention of this endangered and vital habitat is.
There is a failure to set aside substantial [if any] reserve / green space areas for real conservation, and much needed buffers to temper the sudden crowding of lots into a place with infrastructure much lacking, not originally intended for this level of development. This heavy infill development has already caused terrible outcomes for existing residents adjoining these badly planned $ focus ventures. The authorities show no compassion or care for those adversely affected by these poorly thought out plans.
The few areas set aside are tiny, narrow, often thin strips along road ways which means:

The few areas set aside are tiny, narrow, often thin strips along road ways which means:
- stress and exposure risk = increase in tree fall, and parasite infestation etc.
- full ecology is easily compromised by weed invasion, fertiliser run off, vehicles
- limited area unable to sustain or provide safe passage of wildlife
- higher risk of road kill and vehicle damage and human injury
