Australia's plants and animals [native flora &fauna] are unique; let's not let them be extinct as well. Native woodland is good for human souls too; we need those reserves to reduce unhealthy over development. Southern Highlands Shale Woodland is on borrowed time; possible extinction within 10 years. How can Australia be proud of this loss?
Denudation of indigenous ecology is a big contributor to climate change, both in global warming via CO2 and heat absorption, changed precipitation, increased aridity and many other issues such as erosion and dust storms. It is the big ignored fact in the climate debate. Loss of biodiversity within ecologies has also created a greater risk of bushfire intensity and frequency [more detail at a later date] Time is running out to get it right! Why is the environment always last or not even on the list of Government concerns? Why are so many ignoring the scientists screaming at us about the collapse of the planet's systems, which will spell disaster for everything on this planet? Why are so few concerned about the future of their own children and grand children? Why the silence?
Apathy achieves nothing! Correction: Apathy allows the destruction of our natural heritage, the health of our planet, and the healthy and safe future and opportunity for all, for a few extra dollars in the pockets of the few.
The cost to the planet and the increase in destruction from extreme weather events will far outweigh the few extra dollars in government coffers, as politicians put destructive development over sustainable, and environmentally inclusive development. Humans need green spaces, and the green spaces need humans to wake up to the reality of what humanity is doing to this planet, and to future generations.
